As an award-winning lead graphic designer and art director, I am confident that my skills can be applied to any medium. The storytelling aspect of editorial work and the challenge of finding new visual solutions for each project excites me, as well as leading a team of talented creatives. I am detail-oriented and take a holistic approach to every project. I am proud of my adaptability, vast design experience, and ability to work independently and as a team player. When I’m not finding design solutions, I might be herding cats (we have three), feeding birds, squirrels, and opossums, (I draw the line at raccoons), or challenging someone to a game of Rummikub.

I worked with Barb for 20 years at The Kansas City Star. She was an art director for feature sections and managed several designers and illustrators in the editorial art department. Barb’s design work was always top-notch and her working relationships with editors and reporters was the best. She always brought fresh ideas to her design work which is not easy for a daily paper. She tutored student interns from the Kansas City Art Institute and helped them develop their illustration skills and their professional practice skills. It was a pleasure on a daily basis to work with Barb.

Barbara is a tremendously gifted designer, a top-notch manager and the kind of co-worker everyone loves. She is smart, creative, collaborative, organized and downright fun. She shows up, thinks outside the box, takes responsibility, works calmly on tight deadlines and makes it all look easy. In the 15+ years I worked as a features editor alongside Barb at The Star, I was continually amazed at her ability to tap into both sides of her brain. She's an artist and an analytic thinker. A creative force with a critical eye. A problem-solver and a heck of an editor, to boot. I give Barbara my highest recommendation.
